He stated, “I would like to congratulate MECC Trust for continuing to do the important work on the ground and helping the people of Birmingham during these unprecedented and challenging times.” His support highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing social and economic inequalities within our communities.
Where to find us… although the big purple van is hard to miss. During the warmer months, the mobile advice van is located in Cannon Hill Park near the Garden Tea Room Café between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.
While the van may not be available on Mondays, one of our advisors will be present at the Edward Road Health Clinic from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to continue providing support and guidance to residents.
MECC Trust has been delivering direct support to the Balsall Heath community through its distinctive big purple mobile advice van, which was launched in Summer 2022.
This outreach service visits local green spaces, neighbourhood high streets, and parks, making essential advice and support accessible to everyone within the community.
Onboard, our friendly and approachable team provides free one-to-one advice on a wide range of everyday issues, ensuring residents receive the support they need.
• Navigating benefits, Universal Credit, housing, and council tax
• Accessing energy rebates and home improvement grants
• Help with job applications, CV writing, and training opportunities
• Signposting to local services and financial wellbeing guidance
You will also have the option to book a more in-depth appointment at our office, where you can speak with one of our advisors for personalised support and guidance.
Our mobile advice service is designed to break down barriers and ensure that support reaches those who need it most. By bringing services directly into the community, we make help more accessible, visible, and responsive.
• Barrier-busting – Reaches individuals who may be unable to access support due
to mobility issues, isolation, or lack of awareness.
• Visible and approachable – The bright purple van attracts attention and
encourages spontaneous visits, helping to remove the stigma around asking for help.
• Responsive – Locations change weekly across Birmingham so the van can be
present where support is needed most.
