Fahreen’s Story at MECC Trust

Fahreen began her journey with MECC Trust as a volunteer in 2016 after relocating to Birmingham and facing challenges in finding employment. With encouragement from a family friend, she joined the charity and started assisting community members with job searches by preparing CVs, completing application forms, and supporting them in interview preparation.

Her commitment and growing experience led to a paid role within the organisation. She now works as both a Community Advisor and Energy Advisor, offering guidance on benefits, housing issues, and understanding household bills while helping residents reduce energy usage, cut costs, and lower environmental impact.

Fahreen finds great satisfaction in supporting people during difficult times and creating a positive difference in their lives. Her story highlights how volunteering can open doors to professional development while strengthening the community.

Haider’s Story at MECC Trust

Haider describes his time at MECC Trust as a significant learning journey, especially as he had no prior experience in the charity sector. In the early stages of volunteering, he found the customer service aspect challenging and often felt overwhelmed while supporting clients from diverse backgrounds.

Communicating in multiple languages including Urdu, Punjabi, and Mirpuri, as well as assisting individuals with limited English, helped him gradually build confidence and develop strong interpersonal skills. With continued practice and support from the team, he became more comfortable engaging with the community and handling different situations.

Overall, his experience has been highly progressive, enabling him to gain valuable knowledge while enjoying his role and contributing meaningfully to the organisation.
